Jack Frost finally decided to visit here in the South.

With this Winter Weather that has landed on my doorstop, my Southern Ham Gumbo Recipe, that I created for Petit Jean Meats, will be the perfect solution to keep the nip away.

We’re not big on traditional gumbo, so I decided to take our favorite southern classics and create the perfect gumbo recipe.

If this “Southern Ham Gumbo” don’t warm you up on a cold night, I’m not sure anything will!

Hope your family enjoys and stay warm!

I am so blessed to be able to create and share my work with MamaGoesFrugal.

“Here in the South, nothing says home cooking like a casserole.

As a little girl, I can remember casseroles being one of my momma’s favorite dishes to make.  Maybe because they were less time consuming, or that they were so simple, but I’m thinking more along the lines because they were more frugal to make than a 4-course meal.

Creating casseroles has been a tradition that I have carried into my own family dinner nights.”

My Spicy Farmhouse Chicken Casserole is my recreated version of Mexican Chicken.

The Easiest Princess Anna Inspired Cape

Ruffles And Rain Boots

Simple FROZEN Inspired Princess Anna Cape
This might come as a surprise to you, but it’s cold and rainy a lot here in Seattle in the fall and winter months. Newsflash, right? Anyway, it’s cold and rainy and fleece is cheap, so I am making some accessories for the munchkin’s dress up costumes. Whether trick-or-treating for Halloween or just traipsing about Disney (or the grocery) in the fall or winter, our happy-go-lucky little Princess Anna will be prepared with a caplet to accompany her Princess Anna dress up apron.

Chicken Bacon & Avocado Ranch Flatbread Pizza

I Thee Cook

Here is another super simple easy weeknight meal that your family will surely love. I have been on this easy dinner kick lately. Everyone loves pizza right? We only have one free weeknight in our house this school year so fast and easy dinner ideas are a must. I refuse to succumb to the drive through.  I just wont do it!

Use what you already have.
Use colorful items as accents.
Add items from the great outdoors.
Use candles. Lots of candles.
Get creative and use different colors, textures and shapes.
Add a little silver or gold spray paint for some glam.

DIY Garden Tic Tac Toe Game

DIY Garden Tic Tac Toe Game
My boys LOVE playing Tic Tac Toe! Whenever my 8 year old gets a scrap of paper, it’s instantly filled with tic tac toe grids and he’s asking all of us if we want to play. On our road trip this past summer we came across a garden tic tac toe game at the Montana Zoo and I absolutely loved the idea and knew it was one DIY project that I had to make! It wasn’t too hard to make, either, but I didn’t have any motivation to work on the project once I bought the supplies until the weather finally started cooling down here in Phoenix so we could set up our garden tic tac toe game outdoors and try it out.

This Mama Loves

Kids and adults alike will gobble up these delicious and friendly Frankenstein frozen banana pops. A yummy after school treat or a sweet addition to your Halloween party.   They are so simple to put together that the kids can help from start to finish making it not only a great snack but a super fun activity to do together (you can also convince yourself that they are healthy since its fresh fruit).  If you want to lighten up this snack you can probably use yogurt in place of  white chocolate to coat your bananas. This recipe makes 8 small pops but can easily be doubled or tripled

New Lil’ Book Caddy

I found this little wooden caddy awhile back and painted it yellow.   I didn’t like the results and decided to paint it a mint color.  I absolutely love this color right now and happened to score this quart for a dollar at Home Depot awhile back.  I actually would like to paint my daughter’s room this color and accent her room with pink and yellow hues
How many times in your spiritual walk have you found yourself needing guidance or wish you had someone that you trust to talk about a problem you were having?  Over the last few years, I’ve become more intentional about reading and studying the Bible and I’ve became very interested in what it takes to be a Titus 2 and Proverbs 31 woman.

Soft & Chewy Peanut Butter Cookies

It’s finally here, my favorite season of the year, Fall! I love the cooler temperatures and the changing colors of the leaves during this time, not to mention it’s football season..Yaay!
And while everyone else is making everything pumpkin and apple right now, I’m off in another direction, marching to the beat of a different drummer, going towards….wait for it…..peanut butter! Ah yes, the creaminess and peanutty deliciousness of peanut butter.

Nanaimo Bars, and Some Canada Love

Jenn’s Random Scraps

Last year I shared a recipe for my favourite cheesecake, from my favourite Victoria restaurant.  It is truly the best cheesecake I’ve ever eaten.  Just like these Nanaimo Bars are among the best bars I’ve ever had.  They’ve always been one of my favourite sweet treats, and coincidentally also come from Vancouver Island.  Nanaimo, obviously.

Cocktail: Candy Corn Pain Killer

Pink Heels Pink Truck

We were playing around with pumpkin puree making two different kinds of pumpkin cocktails and this one was AMAZING! We started off with the intentions of using rum (traditional Pain Killer ingredient), which was great but not something I would rave about. We had some candy corn infused vodka remaining and substituted the rum with the infused vodka, the end result was FALL heaven. I hope you enjoy this Candy Corn Pain Killer Cocktail!

DIY Photo Collage Letters

A few weekends ago was spent celebrating with my friend that will be moving away to San Diego.  So today I am sharing this personalized gift that a friend and I made for her.  We wanted to make something that represented SLC and also all the fun times we had together with our group of girlfriends.  So being that we live in Salt Lake City, we decided to get some wood blocks that say SLC and put a photo collage of all the fun times we had together in with the girls!

I am a sucker for holidays.

There really isn’t any holiday that I don’t enjoy or that I don’t like making crafts or food for.

To me, Halloween is such a fun holiday. It’s a day when you can pretend to be anything or anybody you want, even if it’s just for a night!

I usually don’t decorate much for Halloween, mostly for the fact that my Love of Fall takes over (:  My daughter uses the expression that “Fall threw up on our porch” haha!  Sorry I go into Fall Overload!

We used to turn our house into a Haunted House every year for Girl Scouts.  The layout of our house was perfect.  The kids could enter into the living room from the carport which was set up as a grave yard complete with tombstones, bones and black lights, from there they entered the kitchen which half was blocked off but it looked like a bloody massacre had took place.  There was even the world “Help Me”, written in fake blood with knives.  It was awesome.

Then the kids entered the dining room, which was set up as a Haunted Funeral Home.  There was complete darkness except for black lanterns with red light bulbs hanging from in the  corners, halloween candles sitting on shelves and in the window and on the dining room table was a coffin, with my son inside dressed up as dracula, and as the kids walked by he was raise up and shine a flashlight on his face and scare them.

Then you started down the hallway to the bedrooms.  In the first bedroom, we had someone jump out as Michael Myers complete with mask and knife, next was the bathroom which was was decorated as another crime scene, then the next bedroom which two of our friends were in dressed up as the ChainSaw Massacre.  One had a real chainsaw and the other had a spray bottle of water so as the kids walked by he would turn the chainsaw on and the other would spray water on them to make them think it was blood.

Then it ended with my bedroom which lead out back, so we had someone in my room to jump out and scare them as they tried to get out the back door!

It was awesome!  A lot of work, A lot of clean up, but so worth it.  We would end the night outside playing Fear Factor, Bobbing for Apples and having a Weenie and S’mores around the Fire Pit!

I think I’m to old for all that work now. LOL

But to satisfy my kiddos, I normally do a small few things in the house for Halloween still.  That includes a few decorations and of course a few yummy treats, but no haunted houses or chain saws!

I have to admit, I do love my black and orange glitter grapevine pumpkins!

Not too much, but just enough in my book!

But one of my favorites I have always enjoyed is making fun Halloween foods.

I wanted to share this adorable cupcake idea with you! I made these and my kids went crazy!!

hall

Here is what you need:

2 cups sugar
2 cups all purpose flour
2 sticks real butter (1 cup)
1 cup water
1/4 cup of Hershey Syrup or 4 tbs of cocoa ( whichever you prefer)
1/2 cup buttermilk (or 1/2 milk with a tbs of white vinegar mixed in)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla ( I prefer 1/2 tsp vanilla paste)

Directions:
Mix and bring the butter cocoa and water to a boil
Pour mixture over sugar and flour
Beat well
Add the remaining ingredients and mix well
Fill cupcake pans almost 3/4 way full
Bake at 350 for 15-20

I love this super easy icing. I can eat a bowl by its self!

1 container of marshmello cream 6-8 oz
1 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla (I prefer 1/2 paste)

Beat softened butter and powdered sugar until fluffy (no lumps)
Add in marshmello cream and vanilla
Mix together by hand

To make the ghosts I simply add frosting in piping bag and swirl up on cupcakes. For the eyes I use sugar eyes found in your baking aisle.

I hope you enjoy these ghostly treats and Happy Halloween!

What do you look for in a friend?

from Penny A. Zeller

I recently watched the movie Mom’s Night Out for the second time. I love this movie and highly recommend it. One of my favorite things is the friendship between Allyson and Izzy. They’ve been best friends since grade school, and while they have totally different 0personalities, they can rely on each other no matter what. Even when Allyson has a major meltdown, Izzy is still her best friend, cheering her on…and being there for Allyson through thick and thin.

Olaf Dress Up Costume

from  Ruffles And Rain Boots

I wasn’t going to make a FROZEN inspired Olaf dress up apron until some friends of ours suggested that all of our kids go together as the cast of FROZEN for Halloween this year (thanks Ang and Kris!). Because I’ve already made FROZEN inspired Princess Anna and Queen Elsa costumes, the only one left was this little cutie. When sketching out this Olaf costume, I designed it while keeping a certain young man in mind. That adorable, precocious little flirt of a fellow has a sensory processing disorder so whatever I designed couldn’t have a hood or anything on his face because he doesn’t like that.

How to Have a Backyard Scavenger Hunt with FREE Printable

from My Big Fat Happy Life

We have done scavenger hunts in a couple different ways 1) creating a chart with photos and words on the computer (see below for a FREE printable) or 2) hand drawing the pictures of the items and writing out the word.  For older children you could just write out a list of items to find.  I also like the idea of re-enforcing numbers by having S find 5 rocks or 8 leaves.

There are lots of items I would consider absolutely essential as a mom, but honestly there’s only one item I can’t go 20 minutes without and that’s my phone. And it’s not because I’m playing Candy Crush or posting pictures on Facebook. It’s because of the collection of free apps I’ve gathered that tell me what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. Ones that calm my baby, put him to sleep, then calm me. And ones that tell me what’s going on outside the world of baby. And for those moments when I do have time to post on Facebook, it makes the process possible (and fun).

Spiced Pumpkin Latte Cupcakes redo

I am such a Lover of Fall.

I love snuggling under a fuzzy blanket in front of the fireplace with a hot cup of coffee and a good book, all while watching the leaves gently swirl to the ground.

But I also love to bake during Fall.

I love all the Fall Spices of Nutmeg, Cloves, Pumpkin, Apple and Cinnamon.

My mind has been spinning with all the different recipes I could make that includes pumpkin during October and November.

Now I could have went simply but that’s not me so I had to spice it up a bit!!

I came up with this recipe last year when I wanted something “sweet” but full of Fall Spices.

It’s that time of year when my husband loves to get Spiced Pumpkin Lattes from Starbucks so I decided to go with that drink in a cupcake style.

I made these for my Connect Group Bible Study, but I stopped at church to drop off my kiddos first and left with seven less cupcakes.

After I got to group, the cupcakes started disappearing fast! I actually caught one of our friends in the corner of the kitchen guarding the cupcake container!!

I am so excited they were a Big Hit and I hope you enjoy them just as much!

Here is what they consist of:
Cake:
2-1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cinnamon
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
1 stick butter, softened
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
3 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla paste
15 oz can of pumpkin
1 cup of cooled pumpkin spice coffee ( or plain coffee with pumpkin spice added)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease or line 24 cupcake pan
2. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices into bowl; set aside.
3. Place butter and brown sugar in a large mixer bowl. Blend until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Add pumpkin and blend together
4. Stir in flour, alternating with the buttermilk. Stir in vanilla paste. After combined add in coffee slowly and mix until all is well blended.
5. Divide batter evenly. I like to use 1/4 cup of batter for each cupcake. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until when a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
6. Prepare frosting and spread or decorate frosting on top.

Icing:

2 sticks butter softened
1 package of cream cheese softened
1 tablespoon. Pumpkin spice coffee (granules)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla paste
2 tablespoons pumpkin spice
1/8 cup whipping cream
2 cups of powered sugar

1. Mix butter and cream cheese together until smooth
2. Slowly mix in powered sugar
3. After combined add in vanilla paste, pumpkin spice and coffee granules
4. After well mixed add in whipping cream and mix until it becomes a whipped consistently
5. Either spread of top of cupcakes or use piping to add frosting
6. Sprinkle of dash of pumpkin pie spice on too of each frosted cupcake
7. Enjoy!

You will be in Fall Heaven!

Happy Fall Ya’ll!
