I just realized today as I was going through posts, that I wrote this guest post for AWB a year ago and I have never shared it on my blog.  How sad is that?

How sad is that?

What makes it worse is that this post has very special meaning to me, and I take great pride in writing it.  I hope you all enjoy.

Productive

***This post is dedicated to my father, James Scott Hutchins

How do you define a Productive Life?

Is it achieving all the goals you set for yourself?

Or is it just simply getting through another day?

Productive Life can be used to describe something that produces a positive result.

My father has every right to look at his life and be proud of the life he lived.

I have to choose whether what I do is going to affect me in a bigger way in order for me to have a Productive Life.

It is insane how fast our children grow up. It seems like just last week I was showcasing my daughter’s finger painting masterpieces on the fridge, and now she is an independent 14 year old and as I look at her I see her as the masterpiece.

But Art and Craft time is still one of the few past times that we still enjoy having together. I cherish this time because I know that even this time will become less and less frequent over the next few years. I am trying to hold on to it as long as possible.

FullSizeRender

Because of that I have to be flexible and take time to enjoy not only projects I like, but find projects that interest her as well. When I come across the IDO3D Art Kit, I thought that looks like a really cool project for us to do together. Something fun and creative but not stressful to the point where we both the leave the project frustrated at each other.

I ordered the IDO3D Art Kit on Amazon and received my package within 2 days. Perfect opportunity for us to do during our Thanksgiving Holiday downtime.
First thing we did was open the package, remove all the contents and each read over the instructions so we both had a clear idea of how the projects worked. Everything you need is included in the kit, 5 drawing paint pens, 5 pen tips, a plastic tracing mat, tracing book and drying flashlight. You will need 3 Triple A batteries for the drying flashlight.

FullSizeRender (1)
After that came the fun part deciding which craft to create. My daughter chose the Hipster Glasses. Perfect choice for her.
If you’ve never worked with a 3D creation it can certainly be difficult to grasp the concept of how to create art to 3 dimensional. The guide sheet was perfect and showed us exactly how to “draw” with the paint pens.
Once you’ve “drawn” your creation with the painting pens you need to use the included flashlight to dry your paint. It doesn’t take long to dry if you have traced the designs with a thin coat of the paint. But my daughter chose to trace the glasses with a thin coat then fill in the frames of the glasses with a thicker coat to make the project sturdier. Let the paint on your creation completely dry before you peel it up or it will still be sticky.

FullSizeRender (3)
This kit is for ages 8 and up. Since my daughter is 14, she really didn’t have any trouble creating the designs, but younger children will probably need to be assisted squeezing the paint tubes and maybe even holding the flashlight over the design.

FullSizeRender (2)

Please have realistic expectations and understand that this is a toy and that your projects are not going to look like 3D professional creations, but it is still a fun project to do

.
Overall I give IDO3D Art Kit a Thumbs Up!

Well it’s that time again for so many country folk like me.

What you say?

County Fair time, that’s what.

Our County Fair has always been one of my best memories as a child.

I remember as a little girl, I couldn’t stand the anticipation leading up to that week. See, growing up my family had very little money. Going to the County Fair was like a vacation to us, but the catch was we could only go one night.

It was way to expensive for a family of six to attend more than that one time. It seemed we always picked the last Saturday to go.

I can remember this one year, I was probably eight or nine years old, and I had been waiting for the fair all week.

My favorite thing of all time was getting a Caramel Apple and riding the Tilt of Whirl!

IMG_1657.JPG

Oh how I loved that ride!

tilt of whirl

Saturday came and my family was so excited. I envisioned all day about the lights, the smells, the animals, the beauty pageant contestants and the people.

IMG_1503-0.JPG

Well, maybe not so much the people. Carnie’s (that’s what us Arkansas folk call the carnival workers) were pretty rough looking people even when I was a child.

Anyway, back to my story, I was so excited, we were all ready to walk out the door when my stomach started hurting. I thought well it’s just from being so excited, but nope, a minute later my lunch was on the floor.

My mom went to clean me up so we could go ahead and leave, (remember this was Saturday, the last day of the fair), but my stomach had other plans.

I can remember being so disappointed, but worse than that was my parents wouldn’t let anyone go if I couldn’t go. I was the baby of the family and they didn’t think it was fair for my sisters to have fun if I didn’t get to. I thought it was unfair for them to not get to go just because I was sick.

IMG_1223.JPG

But even after that bad experience, the fair has still been one of my most favorite times of year.

It has been a family tradition that I have carried on with my own children. I love seeing my children’s eyes light up as the sun sets and the moon is out and the bright lights from the rides shine like New York City.

See, in a rural area as we live in, the County Fair is one of the biggest highlights of the year.

IMG_1501.JPG

And I guess I have to admit, my eyes still light up as well, as I enter the fairgrounds.

IMG_1502-0.JPG

I decided this year, leading up to the fair, I wanted to recreate some of the yummy, fattening foods you might find at the fair.

Of course, Homemade Battered Corn Dogs are one of our most favorite to recreate.

Batter Recipe:

1 cup all purpose flour

1 cup yellow cornmeal

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

2 tsp of sugar

1 tbsp of honey

2 eggs

1 cup milk

8 hot dogs

What to do:

1) Preheat oil in fryer

2) Whisk together your dry ingredients

3) In a separate bowl mix your wet ingredients together and combine in bowl with dry

4) Mix together until batter is slightly lumpy

5) Stick skewer sticks in the end of hotdogs

6) Pour batter in a tall glass or container

7) Dunk the hot dog completely into the batter and shake off the excess

8) Emerge the battered dogs into the fryer on medium heat until golden brown

**do not have your heat to high or the batter will not be cooked in the middle

9) Serve with your favorite dipping sauce

IMG_1528.JPG

But this year I also wanted to do something completely off the charts. Something that would have my family and friends saying, “What in the world was she thinking?”

And yes, I think I accomplished that with my (Now Famous), Are you ready for this?, “Deep Fried CUPCAKES!!!”

IMG_1174.JPG

Of yes I did!

I filled homemade cupcakes with my homemade buttercream frosting and deep-friend those suckers in my favorite sweet batter recipe! (Recipe coming soon, be on the lookout!)

Oh, oh, oh!

My family and friends were in Complete and Utter AWE!

Can we say, YUM, YUM, YUM! But I guarantee it only takes one, two tops before you are saying, “Whoa, hold up, I’m having a sweetness overload!”

Speaking of sweetness, this summer I was introduced to The Montana Born Books called “Marietta Fair Series”.

Well, first of all I love to read romance books, but when you add County Fairs and Cowboys to the mix, well I’m a gonner for sure.

I had the opportunity by each of these wonderful and talented authors to review their books and wait, no really wait. Just kidding. Drum Roll Please…..

To do a Giveaway for the whole series!!

My, Oh My, what fun this has been while I was enjoying my own County Fair I was envisioning the Marietta County Fair characters that each played a part in these fabulous, (and temperature-rising) stories.

Please Note* Yes I am a Good Christian wife, mother and friend and yes I do love God with all my heart and soul. But come on ladies, I am still  an imperfect woman.  And I won’t lie, when I imagine the cowboys in head, my temperature raises to the boiling point! (:  No judgements please!

IMG_1669.JPG

The Series start off with “Beauty and the Cowboy” by Nancy Robards Thompson, and let me tell you what a smokin hot book this was

There is just something about actually seeing your childhood friend for more than a friend for the first and watching it blossom into love.  Especially when they have a fine behind (:

Charlotte was confused and alone after her long-term relationship ended suddenly. She turned to comfort in the arms of her childhood friend Jessie.

Jessie is wanting the real deal. Will Charlotte be able to overcome her fear of commitment and say yes?

This book keeps the turn of events intriguing right from the start.  Once I started reading I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

If your looking to add a little spark back into your love life and a little cowboy thrill along the way, then “Beauty and the Cowboy” is just the book for you.

IMG_1671.JPG

The second book of the Montana Born series is “Cowgirl Come Home” Debra Salonen.

We all have those teenage dreams and for most, those teenage loves.
But sometimes in life those two things collide and we have to choose which path to take.

So many times in life what we think are our dreams turns out to be completely the opposite.

“Cowgirl Come Home”, leaves you revisiting memory lane as Bailey finds that her teenage love with Paul was what she wanted all along.

I loved how the book made me feel like I was at home.  It was so comforting  seeing how past mistakes can turn into something beautiful.

I highly recommend “Cowgirl Come Home”, if you are looking for a wonderful, sweet story of love and hope with the assurance that you can always go home again.

IMG_1668.JPG

“For the Love of a Cowboy” by Yvonne Lindsay is the third book in the Montana Born Series and ladies it is Smoldering Hot!

Oh My!

I must say it again Oh My!

Sizzle Sizzle

I’m not talking about a little heat. I’m talking a blazing hot fire!

Willow is a free-spirited drifter looking for a little adventure and some answers. Booth is a hot-tempered “All Man” rancher who takes care of his own.

When Willow stumbled into Marietta looking answers, the last thing she thought she would find was a well-built male that was all MAN that made her toes curl and sparks fly!

Whew! This book will have you sweatin in no time. I had to excuse myself and splash cold water on my face a few times! It’s hot ladies! It’s smoldering hot!

Will Willow trade in her Free-Spirit Ways for Roots and Cowboy Boots? Read “For the Love of a Cowboy” and find out!

HerSummerCowboyCover

Book four is titled, “Her Summer Cowboy” by Katherine Garbera.

Country Roots are my blood line.  As a child I grew up with an older sister who was in a Country Western Band.  She played in and around local areas and I can still remember getting to tag along on certain occasions.  It was always a special time listening to the band play and the musicians sing.  Something magical about the stories that were told through their songs.

In “Her Summer Cowboy”, Hudson is a rambler who is ready to head home and settle down.  He decides to take one “last” job as a bodyguard for a famous country singer “Alan Jennings”.  What Hudson didn’t know was that Jennings’, single and sexy grand daughter Emma Jean, would be accompanying her grandfather for his last summer tour.

They both felt the electricity arch between them automatically, but Emma didn’t want either of them to get hurt due to her emotions caused by the past.  After deciding a summer fling would satisfy them both, Hudson started having other thoughts as the summer tour continued.

Will Hudson be able to let go at the end of summer?  Or will Emma be able to come to terms with her emotions to see something more between them.

Read “Her Summer Cowboy”, to see what will come between Hudson and Emma, and you might find a little more than country music along the way.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000032_00050]

“A Fair to Remember”, by Barbara Ankrum is the fifth  book of the Marietta County Fair Series.

The characters of this book pull you into their life automatically within the first few pages.

I love when friends make pacts to be the back up plan for each other if life don’t turn out the way they dreamed, but in reality the back up plan should have always been the first choice.

But sometimes in the midst of our own life story we cannot see what our heart really desires.

In “A Fair to Remember”, high school friends Olivia and Jake were never available at the same time.  Twelve years later Jake heads back to Marietta for Olivia’s 30th birthday to see if their pact is still good.

Olivia isn’t for sure love and marriage is for her after a nasty divorce but Jake has waited all these years for this night.

Will Jake convince Olivia that real love truly exists and that he has always been the one for her?

Read ” A Fair to Remember”, to find find what the heart desires.

IMG_1630.JPG

As a child, anytime I wasn’t feeling well I remember my momma making Chicken Noodle Soup.

She would always say, “This will make you feel better”.

Now, I don’t know how much of that statement was true, but I do know that I always felt better. I’m pretty sure it had more to do with my momma’s love then the soup. But of course, I believe she made everything with love.

I love that Chicken Noodle Soup is still a classic for my family. A couple weeks ago my friend Tessa was sick with a cold.

Don’t you just hate summer colds?

Anyway, when I asked her what I could do to make her feel better she automatically asked me to make the classic, so I thought “why not”.

Perfect “get better” meal.

She absolutely loves me to make her this soup when she is sick. Believe me, I have no secret ingredient, it truly is a classic.

What you need:
3 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 cup of sliced carrots (or baby carrots)
1 medium yellow diced onion
1/4 cup diced celery
32 oz chicken stock
16 oz egg noodles
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1tsp chicken seasoning (for color and a pop if flavor)
1 tsp of cumin

What to do:
1) Boil chicken with celery, carrots and onion til cooked throughly in a stock pot with appx 6 cups of water.

2) Remove chicken from stock pot and shred or dice into cubes.

3) Add chicken back to pot and pour in chicken stock.

4) Stir in your chicken seasoning, st, pepper and cumin.

5) Add your egg noodles to your pot and cook til slightly tender.

6) Enjoy for yourself, or in my case for a sick friend!

I hope you enjoy this classic in your home as much as I did as a child and children still do!

Don’t you just love childhood memories?

It has taken me a while to write this post, and as I sit here and type my fingers feel so heavy.

Most bloggers, social media junkies or movie lovers were posting, tweeting and commenting minutes if not moments after hearing the news of the suicude of Robin Williams.

    But I couldn’t.

I remember standing in my bathroom that afternoon as my husband walks up and tells me what had happened.  For most of our society, they automatically wanted to share their favorite movie or how Robin made them laugh through the years.  But for me, my mind went in a different direction.  My thoughts were, “What battles was he fighting inside?”, “How much pain was he feeling but not sharing with the ones he loved?”, “Did he reach out or try to keep up the facade of everything is okay?”.

Robin Williams was a man who made others smile, while he was dying inside.  When did his laughter turn to tears for him?  Was making others laugh and smile a coping mechanism for his own survival?”  These questions will probably never be answered because for the hurting people its not easy to share or explain.

You might wander why my thoughts went to his pain that day?

See, I also struggle with mental illness.  I am diagnosed with Bi-Polar (aka manic depression), Anxiety and Panic Disorders, OCD and even though I haven’t officially been diagnosed yet, we are leaning toward Highly Sensitive Disorder (HSD).  I knew even as a young child I was different.  I was creative, and enjoyed being by myself.  I would sit in my room all weekend and read or make up stories.  As a teenager, relationships became difficult.  I would get upset over the slightest thing and withdraw from friends.

    Relationships failed.

After I was married and had children my symptoms were severe.  I would sit in my closet and rock back and forth.  When the world said something was okay, I had a meltdown.  See in my world little things become big things and they are not okay.  Finally after the death of my momma, I had the trigger that would define me for the rest of my life.  I was under so much stress and grief, that was all it took to flip my switch inside my head.

Mental Illness is cruel.  It is exhausting.  The world does not understand and even though we live in a day of modern medicine where so many illnesses are normal, mental illness is still judged and you can never be normal.  It’s hard to know that no matter how much treatment you have, and meds you take the illness is never going away.

I’m not sure why we all experience struggles and hardships. I’m not sure why when we try our hardest to be a light in the world of darkness, to serve God’s people, to show love when no one else is, why we still become broken.

In the past month I had made a decision for myself and my health to take a step back from so many obligations. To start saying “No” for a change and focus on me, something that I’m not very good at.

See, I’ve never focused on me. It’s always been about everybody else. Isn’t that what we are taught? To not be selfish, that our life is not our own? But what I realized in the midst of giving my whole self away to everyone and everything that needed me, I lost me.

I lost the person I was, the person who had dreams and visions for who I wanted to be, the person who stood out in the crowds for not being scared to take a risk. But everytime I gave a little more of me away, I became someone I didn’t recognize. I started realizing that people are cruel, heartless and so judgemental. People are selfish. It’s all about how much more can they get.
And how we live in a society of laziness. Forget doing anything for yourself. Just have someone else do it for you.

I was raised in a older generation family. A family where hard work was not an option. Where you took care of your family and you didn’t play a victim so you could get help without doing any work for it. You kept your problems quiet. You worked them out within the walls of your own home. You didn’t need to shout it from the rooftops or on Social Media. A time of slower pace and so much more simplicity. I realized, that is still who I am. I am still that person who was raised in simplicity. Who made sure her family was taken care of and who wasn’t in a constant rat race.

I started enjoying being alone, being at home. In the quietness of my own walls I found peace and solace. I started finding interests I enjoyed. Ways to share my creativity without being overwhelmed and overran. I started realizing I enjoyed the companionship of my fur-babies. I loved the joy they experienced when I was around. The unconditional love I experienced from them. I started finding myself living for them. For a living soul who was genuinely happy I was alive. Who, no matter what mood I was experiencing, knew no judgements against me.

So I had made the decision to put focus back on me a month ago. To start worrying about my dreams, and my visions again. To slow down, stop back and get healthy.

Since that time two of my fur-babies have died.

Am I being punished for loving them?

Am I being punished for being selfish for the first time in my life?

    I’m not really sure.

All I know is I am broken. I am hurting, I’m mad, and I’m angry. But most of all I have so much guilt that I’m hating myself.

I’m I being taught a lesson or is it just life I’m experiencing?

I don’t know the answer. All I know is that the more pain and hurt I experience the more I want to surround myself within the walls on my own home and try to protect the ones who matter most in my heart.

    See I’m human.

    And I’m grieving.

Maybe it’s not over a human life but it’s over a life that showed me more love than most would dare to do.

When you have the illness I have, and it already takes an army to fight each day, any loss becomes too much to bear.  The world becomes a dark, ugly place that I no longer want to be involved in.

I hate the battles that are inside me.  I’m not sure why I’m being tormented.

Why did God decide I needed to have this illness.

I can’t seem to find peace anymore.  I keep praying for God to shed some light on the situation but I can’t find the answers.  I feel I’m losing myself.

I’m in an emotional war.  A war I pray that others never have to experience.

So today, I am doing something for myself.  I am taking a huge step to get emotional healthy.  It will not be easy, it will not be quick.  But it will be worth it in the end.  I am tired of saying I’m Okay, when I’m not.  I’m tired of putting on a smile when I’m dying inside.

Today is the day I find peace.  I will be on a health, healing and prayer sabbatical for the next few weeks.  Until I return I ask you to pray for my health and my healing.  I ask you to pray for the others who are hurt and broken but hasn’t found the courage to step forward.  I pray you take care of yourself.

Natasha’s favorite post came from Jayhawk Mommy with the post “Teaching My Toddlers Manners!”
Saying, “I am a stickler on manners with my son. It is very important to me that he is a mannerable young man – making sure he says Thank You, Yes please, You’re welcome, Bless you, etc. I definitely see that there is a lack of children being polite and mannerable, and growing up that was such an important factor with my grandparents and parents. Therefore, I want to encourage my son to do the same. Thanks for sharing this great post!”

My favorite post came from Jayhawk Mommy with the post “Teaching My Toddlers Manners!”
What a wonderful post! I see so many children that have long since passed the toddler stage, with absolutely no manners and no respect, and it saddens me greatly for the state of future generations. It makes me feel so wonderful, when my own children at 12, 14, & 21, still use the manners and respect that they have been taught since birth. Thank you so much for sharing!

Miranda’s favorite post came from Life As I Know It with the post “Weekending!”
Saying, “I like this post because I love getting away for the weekend. I love family time and relaxation. Those are the best vacations or staycations.”

Jessica’s favorite post came from Giveaways 4 Mom with the post “5 Reasons Age Three is Worse Than Age 2!”
Saying, “As a mom who has a 3 year old, I wholeheartedly agree! The most definite agreement is demanding. Now that my son is talking more his favorite words are “I want” and if he doesn’t get what he wants the terror screams happen! Boy oh boy! LOL!”

Natasha’s favorite post came from Just A Touch of Crazy with the post “5 Tips for Reading with A Kid Who Hates to Read!”
Saying, “I have been very fortunate to have a child that loves to read. However, if he didn’t enjoy reading, I would probably take advantage of these tips. Great post!”

My favorite post came from Organized Chaos with the post “What Makes Women Feel Beautiful!”
Such a beautiful post! Because of a great deal of negativity towards me, during my growing up years, it took me a long while to realize that I was beautiful on the inside, where it counts the most! I also realized that it is my husband and my kids who make me feel the most beautiful. When my kids tell me that I am the best mommy ever or when they come and tell me those things that have likely added to my gray hairs, I truly feel beautiful, because I know that they have complete trust in me.
